Dominic D. Crain, of Orlando, Florida, pleaded guilty to driving on Middle Road, Southampton, while impaired.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Police were on patrol on Middle Road on October 12 around 9.45 p.m. when they saw Crain riding erratically. They stopped him and noticed that his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol.

Crain, who was staying at the Southampton Princess, had 165 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.

Yesterday, Crain told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis: "I've never been in this kind of trouble before''.

But Mr. Francis took Crain off the road for a year and told him the ban was to take effect immediately.

OFFENSIVE WORDS LAND MAN IN JAIL CTS Offensive words land man in jail A magistrate jailed a 35-year-old man for a month for using offensive words in public.

Richard Alan Smith, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to using offensive words on Devon Springs Road in Devonshire. He told the court that it was "out of character'' for him to be in trouble.

Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police went to St. Brendan's Hospital where Smith was being abusive. They asked him to leave but he continued to shout and swear as he walked away.

Sgt. Dale told the court that Smith had been granted a six-month conditional discharge back in May for using offensive words.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Edward King told Smith he had violated his conditional discharge before sentencing him to one month in prison for each offence. The sentences will run concurrently.

CHARGES LIKELY FOR KNIFE POSSESSION CTS Charges likely for knife possession A 21-year-old Southampton man is expected to face charges for possessing a prohibited weapon after Police found an automatic switchblade knife on him.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said that while Police were arresting the man at Devon Springs Road in Devonshire on Sunday afternoon for an outstanding warrant, they found the switchblade on him.

The man made no attempt to use the knife but he was expected to face possession charges.

POLICE FIND MAN DRUNK IN PARK CTS Police find man drunk in park Being drunk and incapable cost a 52-year-old Pembroke man a $300 fine yesterday.

Llewellyn P. Simmons, of King Street, admitted the offence.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said Simmons was found asleep on a bench in Point Pleasant Park in Pembroke on October 6 around 11 p.m.

Officers noticed that Simmons' eyes were glassy, he smelled of alcohol and he could not stand.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered Simmons to pay a $300 fine or spend 30 days in prison.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES LEAD TO $200 FINE CTS Traffic offences lead to $200 fine An unemployed Devonshire man was fined $200 for three separate traffic violations.

Stephen Glenn Dill, of Cedar Park Road, had pleaded not guilty to driving without a licence and for having defective brakes on his cycle and a horn which did not work.

But he changed his plea to guilty after the court heard testimony from P.c.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Edward King fined him $50 for each defective cycle part and $100 for driving without a licence.

TEEN ARRESTED ON STOLEN BIKE CTS Teen arrested on stolen bike A 17-year-old Devonshire youth was arrested on Sunday evening for riding a stolen cycle.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said Police on patrol in the Devil's Hole area stopped the cycle around 10 p.m.

When Police tried to arrest the rider a violent struggle ensued and they had to call for back-up to detain the youth.

Inquiries are continuing.
