The visitors were at Jobson's Cove on South Shore in Warwick at around 2.30 p.m. when they noticed a young "teenaged-looking'' male walking up and down the beach near their belongings, said a Police spokeswoman.

Shortly afterward the youth was spotted stealing the bags and he ran off when they shouted at him. One of the pair chased after him but were unsuccessful.

The suspect apparently ran to the parking lot at Chaplin Bay and got onto a waiting bike with an accomplice.

He is described as black, about five-foot, two-inches to five-foot, seven-inches tall and slimly built. He was wearing a bright yellow T-shirt and short grey pants.

The stolen knapsacks contained food, two black leather wallets containing cash, a Konica camera, a Minolta camera, a ladies Seiko watch, sunglasses and credit cards.
