He awoke to find a man crouched at the foot of the bed.

The visitor yelled and the culprit escaped by running out through an open patio door and jumping over a balcony.

A wallet containing an undisclosed quantity of cash, credit cards, and other personal items was stolen.

The suspect was described as white, approximately six feet tall, of slim build and with short hair, and wearing dark clothing.

GIRL HIT WITH BAT CRM Girl hit with bat Police plan to question a 15-year-old boy for allegedly beating a 12-year-old girl with a plastic bat.

The girl had been visiting her friend's home on North Shore Road, Pembroke.

Around 7 p.m., she was ordered to go home by her friend's older brother.

Then the brother allegedly used a plastic baseball bat to beat the girl's legs and body while she was walking to her grandparents' home.

The alleged assault stopped when the girl's grandmother appeared and the boy ran back to his home.

The girl was later treated for bruising to her fingers and knuckles by staff at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

THIEVES STEAL CAR CA Thieves steal car A woman who left the keys in the ignition of her car returned to find it stolen.

Police, who are investigating the incident, said the car was parked outside Four Star Pizza on Middle Road, Warwick around 7.15 p.m. on Sunday.

TEEN RAN FROM POLICE CRM Teen ran from Police A teenager pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to obstructing a Police constable in the course of his duty.

Kiwon Saltus, 18, of Alexandra Road, Devonshire, ran from Police just before 7 p.m. on Palmetto Road on February 27.

Police acting on information, approached two men and Saltus outside the Devonshire Recreation Club.

Saltus began to unzip his jacket and was informed he would be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Saltus jumped over a wall onto Devon Lane, but was caught a short distance away.

He told Police: "I thought there was a warrant out for me.'' Saltus was searched and nothing was found on him.

Mr. Francis, taking into account Saltus' age, handed down a conditional discharge for 12 months.

MAN STOLE CIGARETTES CRM Man stole cigarettes A Salvation Army resident was yesterday fined $50 for stealing a pack of cigarettes from a Hamilton store.

Robert Hewey, 48, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the theft which took place on March 6.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Police were called to the Phoenix Store around 12.50 p.m. to investigate the report of a male shoplifter.

An employee described Hewey to the officers who arrested him on Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke a few minutes later.

CAMCORDER STOLEN CRM Camcorder stolen The owner of an entertainment store reported the theft of a camcorder on Sunday.

Police said the camcorder was last seen around 2 p.m. when it was connected to a television and video recorder at Cocamo Ltd. on Camp Hill, Southampton.

It was noticed missing later that evening.
