their primary department after an overseas school inspector gave them top marks.

Chairman Sen. Walwyn Hughes said external evaluations were commonplace in may other countries to help teachers and boards monitor progress and set new targets.

He said school believed regular inspections should be part of Warwick Academy's development plan.

As the school's primary department is in its eighth year, they decided to start there, but are planning reviews of the other departments in the near future.

Sen. Hughes said: "I am very pleased to advise that the evaluation, which was completed on October 27, went very well, and the primary head and her staff are to be commended for their participation and support.

"The board of governors has now received a report from (inspector) Rod King.

He found the Warwick Academy primary department to be a happy, harmonious, caring community in which pupils and adults work constructively and cooperatively.

"The attitudes of pupils towards their work were found to be uniformly good and pupils were observed to be highly confident and motivated learners.'' Sen. Hughes said the British school inspector found that teachers in the lower school had a very good understanding of the basic teaching skills and that different teaching approaches were used effectively.

However, the review did identify some areas for improvement, including aspects of planning, monitoring and school organisation.

These areas are now to be addressed in an action plan that will incorporate the recommendations from Mr. King.

Sen. Hughes added: "This evaluation has been very positive and productive. It has confirmed the many strengths of our primary department while identifying those areas where there is room for further development and growth.''
