Daneeka Dawn Basden, 21, of Hook and Ladder Lane, Sandys Parish, broke down in tears in Magistrates' Court yesterday just after the charge was formally put to her.

Basden's sister Racquel, a student at Sandys Middle School, became the 17th road fatality of 1998 after their motorcycle was involved in a collision with a truck on Somerset Road on December 10, last year.

Racquel was a pillion passenger on the bike and died in hospital on December 12, 48 hours after receiving massive internal injuries in the crash.

In court yesterday, Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Basden, who was accompanied by several family members, to return to court on January 10.
