The 13-year-old Sandys Parish boy was airlifted to The Children's Hospital in Boston on Monday morning after a spell in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit over the weekend.

A spokeswoman for the Children's Hospital last night said the boy was in "fair condition'' and was now out of intensive care and on an ordinary ward.

The teen rider was exiting Norden Lane into Ord Road, Paget, and collided with a 50-year-old Devonshire motorcyclist traveling east on Ord Road.

The youngster, who attends Spice Valley Middle School, suffered serious injuries in Saturday afternoon's accident, while the man ended up with facial cuts and several loose teeth. But he is now back at work.

There were believed to have been two other cycle riders ahead of the accident when it happened.

Teenage crash She added: "It's ludicrous. I reported it to the Police, but it's going on all the time. Something has to be done.'' The woman -- who wished to remain anonymous -- called for speed restrictions, which would make a noise when the driver passed over them, to be introduced.

She said: "There are plenty of examples to follow from other countries. Ord Road is a long straight road and is a temptation to speeders.

"If the opportunity for speed were taken away, we would see a difference in the safety.'' Witnesses to the accident should contact P.c. Walkes at Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011.
