$1m to repair Harmony Club
A $1 million budget was announced yesterday to conduct repairs on the Harmony Club property in Paget which had been recently purchased to house overseas Police recruits.
"The money," said Junior Labour Minister Walter Roban, "Will be used to conduct any repairs necessary to the building such as windows, doors and furniture."
Currently 16 units there are in use by Police officers and the Hustle Truck office is also located on the grounds. The remainder of the property is under renovations.
Mr. Roban said the hotel had not been occupied for over a year hence the need for the $1 million budget.
Government bought the dormant Harmony Club hotel in a deal worth $6.25 million last May.
The hotel, formerly owned by Bermuda Resort Hotels Ltd., ceased operating three years ago. After shareholders failed to raise investment to revive it, the Ministry of Housing, through the Bermuda Housing Corporation, made them an offer.
After short-listing areas within Government most in need of housing its professionals, the Bermuda Police Service was identified as the most in need.
The property consists of three buildings with 40 large hotel-style rooms, a swimming pool, and will soon be refurbished to make way for the new recruits.
