200 students benefit from programme
A summer internship programme gave some 200 students the chance to do paid work experience during the summer.
Culture Minister Neletha Butterfield told the House of Assembly about the scheme on Friday, explaining that it was aimed at helping students develop social networking skills and get a taste of the workplace.
The Minister said: "During the months of July and August, approximately 200 students between the ages of 14 and 16 were afforded the opportunity to engage in real life, practical and meaningful experiences in a work shadow environment reflecting their individual interest.
"The students were provided the opportunity to gain insight into the real world of work, to learn and to develop the work ethic so desperately needed in the workplace today and the 21st century."
Students were placed at various government departments and corporate businesses. The programme was launched in 2005 and is part of the community outreach programme.
