Offences Amendment Act after ZBM reported the name of a man convicted of committing serious sexual assault on his wife.

The man's name was revealed on ZBM's 7 p.m. broadcast on Monday. In cases of incest and sexual assault involving a family member, newspaper and broadcast reports are prohibited from divulging information that could lead to the victim's identification even after a conviction.

But Mr. Melvin Douglas, Crown Counsel at the Supreme Court trial that ended in a 10 to 2 guilty verdict on Monday, said the Attorney General's Chambers would only be launching an investigation into the matter if they received an official complaint of the breach.

If investigations then showed ZBM to be in contempt of court, the company could face prosecution by the Crown, he said.

Mr. Douglas who did not see the report himself, admitted he had only heard of the broadcast yesterday.

ZBM programme director Ms Darlene Ming yesterday refused to say if the station had received complaints about the breach. She also refused to comment on the prospect that the company could face charges.

The 52-year-old man, convicted of sexually assaulting his wife on August 18 last year, could face up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced at arraignments court on July 3.
