Bermuda Archives director Karla Hayward was elected to executive board of the Caribbean Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives.

In the next four years the board, led by Dominique Taffin, Director of the Martinique Archives, hopes to set up a web portal link of common sources for all Caribbean archives.

They also plan to develop an archival task force for disaster preparedness in the region.

The event, held in Trinidad last month, featured a two-day workshop on disaster preparedness and an electronic records management workshop.

In October Ms Hayward was also appointed to help bring in the first phase of the Public Access to Information Act 2010.

The Minister of Public Information Services Neletha Butterfield said: “Ms Hayward’s formal association with other Caribbean archives will reinforce the long historical ties that Bermuda has within the region and will benefit the Island through sharing resources and information of mutual interest.”
