Breaking News: 20-year-old man dies in road crash

Police truck away two motorbikes involved in a fatal crash on Berry Hill this morning.

Police have named Geoffrey Burns as the 20-year-old who died in a motorcycle accident this morning.

Lifeguard service was today suspended at public beaches - Mr. Burns had worked as a lifeguard for the Department of Parks for the past two summers.

It is understood Mr. Burns' bike collided with another at about 6 a.m. on Berry Hill Road in Paget, near the Botanical Gardens.

The second motorcyclist has not been named. According to Police he was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

"Mr. Burns sustained serious injuries and was rushed to [KEMH] via ambulance, however he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by an on-call physician at 7 a.m.," a Police spokesperson said.

"The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Burns."

Inquiries into the accident are underway. Witnesses are asked to contact PC Derek Simmons on 295-0011.
