Butterfield Foundation donates $100,000 to Westmeath rest home

Westmeath rest home received a $100,0000 donation from Butterfield Charitable Foundation yesterday.

The money will be used to build a new kitchen in the nursing home's intermediary wing – an area that provides 24-hour care to residents who require some form of assistance.

Butterfield's President and CEO, Alan Thompson, who spoke on behalf of the Butterfield Charitable Foundation said he was pleased to have been able to support such a worthy cause.

"Making valuable contributions to the communities we call home has been a cornerstone of Butterfield's mission statement for the past 150 years," he said.

Mr. Thompson added: "This is our way of thanking Bermuda's seniors for their hard work over the years – for their help in making Bermuda the place we all enjoy today."

Libby Durrant, administrator of Westmeath thanked the Foundation for its donation, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and all the residents at the facility.

She said: "Westmeath's role in maintaining the standard of care to seniors from all facets of Bermudian society is important and we must ensure its continued success and growth."

She added: "Community participation and financial support is essential to the long term sustainability of the home."
