Charges dropped in alleged machete attack from 2008
Prosecutors have dropped charges against two men who were charged with wounding and carrying a machete.
Bryce Leonard Place, aged 37, of Warwick, and Jamel Evans, 38, of Sandys, were accused of wounding Jahvonne James with intent to do him bodily harm and also having a bladed article in the form of a machete in a public place. The charges related to an alleged incident at Mr. James' Warwick home last November, in which he suffered multiple lacerations.
However, prosecutor Brett Webber filed a nolle prosequi this week, which is an application to discontinue criminal charges. He said: "The Crown is not able to proceed in this matter, and as such a nolle has been filed."
He declined to comment further after the case as to why this was done. However, The Royal Gazette understands that Mr. James may have been reluctant to pursue the case.
Granting the Crown's application, Puisne Justice Carlisle Greaves told Evans and Place: "You are both free to go." They had been on bail since charges were first filed against them last November.
