Coins to help sexual assault unit
The Bermuda Junior Service League is appealing for donations to help victims of sexual assault.
'Coins for a Cause' will use cash to upgrade the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) room at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH).
Formerly known as the Rape Crisis Room, the SART room was initially funded by the BJSL in 1999, but a refurbishment is now needed at a cost of $45,000.
SART has noticed growing numbers of young victims needing their support and so your donations will help to ease their ordeal through purchasing the latest equipment.
BJSL President Verde Pineda said: "Sadly, far too many women have use of this room. BJSL is proud to be supporting efforts to provide this needed resource for the women of Bermuda.
"The Sexual Assault Response Team is unfortunately seeing younger and younger victims, and we plan to provide state-of-the-art equipment to help these victims get the attention and treatment they need during such a traumatic experience."
The fundraising drive lasts until September 30 and people can make a donation anywhere they see a bucket with the yellow BJSL 'Coins for a Cause' sticker. Local businesses can also take part by providing counter or floor space.
The BJSL is a women's charity which focuses on community service. Founded in 1936, it has a long history of supporting the Bermudian community. For more information, email: bjsl@northrock.bm or telephone 332 2575.
