A 71-year-old man suffered cuts and scratches to his knees after he lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole.

The accident happened at about 7 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of South Road and Brighton Hill Road in Devonshire.

Police said an unspecified pre-existing medical condition caused the Devonshire man to lose control of his vehicle, the front-end of which was extensively damaged.

He was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment before being discharged.
