charge in Supreme Court yesterday.

The 24-year-old Spanish Point woman was cleared of one charge of possessing cannabis on February 16, 1997. A jury was sworn in and heard evidence from just two witnesses before Chief Justice Austin Ward directed the jury to find Miato not guilty.

It had been alleged that Police came to her home around 4.00 p.m. on February 16 and after a search, discovered a canister that contained what Police suspected were cannabis seeds.

However Government analyst Shirley Bayne said that after visual, microscopic and other chemical tests, the best that she could say was that the seeds "were consistent in appearance with cannabis'' but she was not prepared to say that it was cannabis.

On hearing that, Crown counsel Charlene Scott declined to offer further evidence against Miato and the Chief Justice directed the jury to acquit her.
