After undergoing their last physical and mental tests, the second GuardSmart class graduated Sunday, proving their skills at lifesaving.

The eight participants of the class, four boys and four girls, organised by the Bermuda Red Cross, competed in relay competitions, fitness training and timed swims.

"This class was very different from the previous which was comprised of all girls except for one boy, but it was just as energetic," said Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Dean Bottomley.

The programme, which teaches children the basics of lifeguarding, will continue to offer the two-week course in July and August, and already has several people signing up and scheduling the required swim testing.
