It will mark the second time that Dr. Katona has arrived on the invitation of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research for the springtime tours.

He will speak about "Tantalising Tales of Bermuda's Whales,'' at the Biological Station, on Thursday, April 8, before leading a whale watch on Good Friday.

Dr. Katona is Professor of Biology at the College of the Atlantic, in Bar Harbour, Maine.

He was founder and director of the College of the Atlantic's marine mammal research group which concentrates on photo-identification studies of the humpback and finback whales.

Another position he held was co-chairman of the National Marine Fisheries Service Humpback Whale Recovery Team. He is currently chairman of the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Association, president of the American Cetacean Society, chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Society for Marine Mammalogy and also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Society.

Dr. Katona has written a number of books, including co-authoring "A Field Guide of the Whales, Porpoises and Seals of the Gulf of Maine and Eastern Canada,'' the fourth edition of which will be published by the Smithsonian Institute Press this year.

His lecture takes place at the Biological Station's Hanson Hall beginning at 8 p.m.

Whale watch tours this year are on April 4, 9, 18 and 25. Places are again limited.
