Facebook page for Government's communications department

The Department of Communication and Information hopes to reach out to Internet users via its own page on the popular Facebook network.

Department head Beverle Lottimore said, "Government recognises that Facebook has become one of the most widely used communications vehicles in Bermuda for both the young and not so young, and it offers us another great opportunity to reach our citizens directly.

"The added benefit of Facebook is that it allows for two-way and immediate communication.

"We post a release, a photo or a video clip and the public has the ability to comment, provide suggestion, support or even opposition that can readily be accessed and addressed. All who choose have the right to use this vehicle as it is open everyone."

Ms Lottimore encouraged people to join the site, which can be searched under DCI_Dept. of Communication and Information, and check the 'Like' icon in order to access the latest information, photos and videos of important events.

She assured those who do so that their personal information will not be open to or accessible by the Government.
