A woman caught red-handed stealing cash from a man's pocket has been jailed for a month.

Charron Davis, 41, pleaded guilty yesterday at Magistrates' Court to stealing $624 from Andre Smith on January 24 last year.

Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said the victim was at the Swinging Doors club, on Court Street, when he was asked to ring the bell to buy drinks for everyone in the bar.

He agreed, and was talking to someone when he felt a hand entering his pocket.

Then he saw the defendant attempt to put what she had pulled out into her sister's pocket.

Mr. Mahoney said Mr. Smith knocked more than $600 cash out of Davis' hand and picked it up off the floor before filing a complaint with the Police.

Davis was arrested, cautioned and interviewed during which she denied the allegation of theft.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner pointed out to Mr. Mahoney: "It's attempted theft, not theft."

However, the prosecutor replied: "She was caught in the act."

Mr. Warner jailed Davis for 30 days, to run concurrently with other sentences meted out for traffic violations.
