getting burned by a fraudster.

A 63-year-old St. George's man reported to Police on Friday that on the previous Tuesday, he loaned money to a man who had given him a "plausible'' story of a desperate need for a new car battery.

Police say the victim heard about several unsuccessful attempts to borrow jumper cables -- including from the St. George's Police Station -- and the man's only resort was to buy a new battery.

Later the fraudster returned for more money under the same conditions, saying the battery was more expensive than he originally thought.

The victim told Police he later found out the con game had been pulled on others and that they had never been repaid.

He waited throughout Wednesday and Thursday and on Friday morning went to Police.

The suspect is described as about 45 years old, five feet, eight inches tall and clean shaven.
