Governor's son raises money for local charity with South American cycle race
Governor Sir Richard Gozney's son James pedalled through the streets of South America to raise more than $5,000 for a local charity.
Mr. Gozney and racing partner Ben Talbot biked over 3,250 kilometres as participants in the Vuelta Sudamerica over a 30-day period. Funds raised went towards the Spirit of Bermuda and a British charity that helps people recovering from brain injury called Headway UK.
The gruelling race starts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and then crosses Argentina and Chile before heading North to finish in Quito, Ecuador.
Mr. Gozney and Mr. Talbot, both students at Cambridge University in the UK, participated in the first two stages of the event.
Mr. Gozney won the second section of the race a 1,300-kilometre course from Foz do Iguacu in Brazil, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. His longest race day was an impressive 175 kilometres.
