Hands of Love reacts to earthquake needy
Hands of Love, a charity that has helped feed, clothe and shelter Bermudians for 20 years, is extending its efforts to raise funds for earthquake ravaged Haiti.
Charity founder Fern Wade said the "Help Haiti Relief" fundraising drive will be held every Saturday until the end of February to "raise as much as possible for the people of Haiti".
Ms Wade is asking anyone who wishes to make a donation to stop by the Hands of Love headquarters on Camp Hill, across from the Heron Bay MarketPlace.
"People can just drive into the parking lot and we will be there between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. ready to accept any donations," she said.
Ms Wade is urging people not to donate shoes and clothing yet as she plans to send those type of goods to Haiti in April.
"What they need in Haiti right now is money. We will concentrate on monetary donations for now and send the shoes and clothes over when they ask for those type of things."
Asked why she is expanding the reach of her charity beyond Bermuda, Ms Wade said: "My heartbeat is people no matter where they are that is where my heart is."
Ms Wade added that all of the money raised will be donated to the Bermuda Red Cross.
