A new summer camp for youngsters interested in a career in health care will start this year.

Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) and Bermuda College are inviting children aged ten to 14 to sign up for CampMed.

The programme will include tours of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, along with activities focusing on diversity, awareness and leadership training.

Lynae Wales, student-volunteer services coordinator for BHB, said the camp was the first such one for youngsters aged under 14.

"BHB employs people in over 200 different positions," she said. "Staff work in areas as diverse as pathology, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, dietary, finance, information technology, maintenance, nursing, rehabilitation services and infection control.

"We think CampMed will give pre-teens a unique and fun summer experience, while exposing them to exciting careers in health care."

Registration takes place between May 11 and May 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at KEMH's human resources department at Montrose Cottage (opposite ER) and parents are advised to come early as there are limited spaces.

CampMed will run weekdays from July 6 to August 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bermuda College. There is a $50 registration fee and the camp costs $80 a week.
