Hotelier awaits US writ
been served on him from the United States.
The writ could cost Mr. Dodwell, managing director of The Reefs Beach Club, in Southampton, more than $3 million if it is proved.
He has been accused of breach of fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation by his partner, Mr. Leo Koehler.
The writ involves business dealings between Mr. Dodwell and Mr. Koehler when they originally bought the Reefs and another hotel in the Caribbean.
But the Bermudian hotelier, who won the Island's top award at the weekend, said that the news of the writ from the Maryland court had come as a complete surprise and shock.
Mr. Dodwell said: "I have yet to receive this writ and therefore direct comment on its claim at this time would not be appropriate.
"However these allegations contained in the news story have no foundation and will be contested vigorously when received.
"I have always conducted business with the claimant Mr. Koehler, as a fellow director, in a totally frank and open manner and do not understand why he is taking this action.
"Obviously, I am personally very concerned about any impression that this might leave on the community here in Bermuda. I let my reputation and character speak for themselves.''
