The owner of two five-month-old pitbulls was fined $635 in Magistrates' Court yesterday for offences against the Dogs Act.
The court heard that Damon Kujai Simmons, 22, of First Ave, West Pembroke was cleaning the kennel when the pitbull puppies went next door and took a bite out of the neighbour's terrier.
Aravinda Weerasooriya, the owner of the injured dog, spent $135 in veterinary bills the court heard.
Duty Counsel Peter Farge told Magistrate Archibald Warner that Simmons could not afford to pay a heavy fine like those reported in The Royal Gazette for similar dog offences. Mr. Farge told the magistrate the terrier owner was satisfied the attack was a result of a genuine accident.
Magistrate Warner ordered Simmons to pay $135 for damage to the neighbour's dog and fined him $500.
