against a controversial Trade Union Amendment Act.

Bermuda Industrial Union president Derrick Burgess, Bermuda Public Services Association general secretary Ed Ball Jr. and Bermuda Union of Teachers leader Milton Scott last year denounced the 1998 Act as unconstitutional in denying union representation to middle managers. They also criticised Governor Thorold Masefield for the legislation's "premature'' passing before an examination by the ILO's Freedom of Association Committee.

However, last night Mr. Ball said an ILO recent statement informed Government of an infringement upon workers' rights.

He also said allowing middle managers to unionise was one of several contentious issues in the Act. But according to Mr. Ball, Paula Cox, Minister of Home Affairs and Public Safety, had written to the ILO that Government was willing to change the Act.
