Jazz contest will lead to Cuba

Bermudian jazz musicians will compete for a slot in the 25th Annual Havana International Jazz Festival next February.

Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation Dale Butler first announced the opportunity to play in Havana, Cuba, on May 1.

"Having a Bermuda jazz band participate in this event is a very unique cultural exchange between our two Island nations," Mr. Butler said.

The winner of the competition will also have the chance to play at the Bermuda Music Festival in October at the National Sports Centre.

Mr. Butler said: "Now Bermudians will gain the experience of performing alongside and learning from some of the best Latin and international jazz performers from around the world."

Five local jazz bands entered a competition that will take place on Father's Day, Sunday June 15 at the Leopards Club at 4 p.m.
