The Los Angeles County Public Defender's office has refused to represent Premier Ewart Brown's son, Kevin, as he seeks to clear himself of 33 felony sex counts.
Brown has now been told to seek counsel from the Alternate Public Defender's office. A public defender is a lawyer employed by the US government to represent those charged with a crime who cannot afford to pay for an attorney. Los Angeles created the Alternate Public Defender's office to deal with defendants the Public Defender's office was unable to represent.
Los Angeles deputy district attorney Rouman Ebrahim said the office couldn't accept Brown as a client due to a conflict of interest and because his income was too great.
