Life jackets left on board as teen boys swim to safety

after a drama involving two boys in an inflatable dinghy unfolded last night.
Parents of the two 13-year-olds reported them missing after they failed to return home on time and Marine Police began searching for the two around Agars Island near Two Rock Passage just after 6 p.m. They were found safe and well soon afterward. And had swum ashore to Point Shares -- leaving the life jackets onboard -- after the boat's engine stopped.
A Harbour Radio official advised other boaters in distress not to try to swim ashore -- even if they seemed close -- because of dangerous undercurrents and sudden rough conditions possible at this time of year. He said all boats should carry flares and a marine VHF radio to call for help.
