Died: Geoffrey Burns, 20.
Bermuda's lifeguards left the beach yesterday to attend the memorial service for fellow lifeguard Geoffrey Burns.
Mr. Burns, 20, was killed in a motorcycle collision last week, only a day before he was scheduled to return to University.
Following his death, the lifeguard service was suspended throughout the Island, with a spokesman for the service saying: "We really are a close knit family, and his death really affected all the lifeguards."
While lifeguards were taken off duty at 1.30 p.m., the Parks Department said that service would return to normal on all beaches today.
