Copies of an award-winning documentary about Bermuda have been donated to the Island's public schools.

Bermudian filmmaker Lucinda Spurling donated several copies of her documentary 'The Lion and The Mouse', along with copies of a study guide.

The series, narrated by Academy Award winning actor Michael Douglas, details the historical connection between Bermuda and the United States over the last 400 years with interviews, archival footage and historical recreations.

The documentary won the Audience Choice Award at the Bermuda International Film Festival. Ms Spurling was also awarded the 2009 Doreen Lightbourn/Lionel Pearman Award by Government, for the film.

Ms Spurling, who is in the process of negotiating distribution for the film project, said: "My main objective with documentaries is to educate and entertain and to use this powerful medium to reach out to students."

The study guide, along with scripts and posters for the documentary, are already available online www.thelionandthemouse.org.

Education officer Leona Scott called the donations a welcome addition, saying: "I'm sure teachers will find multiple uses for this new resource."
