A man who has been shot twice in the past three years was fined this week for possessing cannabis.

Jakai Harford, 27, from Pembroke, was caught with the drug during a vehicle search operation by Police on December 18, 2009. Harford was a passenger in a car stopped at 11.50 p.m. as it travelled west along South Road, Southampton.

When officers searched the car with the aid of a sniffer dog, a Guinness bottle was found with around four grams of cannabis inside it. Harford pleaded guilty to drug possession when he appeared at Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $600, to be paid by September 7. Harford was shot in the face as a taxi dropped him off in Mission Lane, Pembroke, in the early hours of March 27.

He suffered serious injuries that left him in intensive care in the hospital. The shooting took place just yards from the spot where his brother, 30-year-old Kumi Harford, was shot and killed on St. Monica's Road in December 2009.

Jakai Harford had previously been shot in the shoulder in Camp Hill, Southampton, in the early hours of Christmas Day 2007.
