In Bermuda, Marley's image and lyrics continue to adorn everything from t-shirts to tote bags. Indeed, no other rock or pop musician, dead or alive, exerts the cultural and artistic influence that Marley does, or criss-crosses racial boundaries with the same ease. Marley's music is as likely to be heard at parties in Fairylands as it is on Parsons Road.

For many of the Island's black population, especially the Rastafarian community, Marley's message has made him a spiritual icon in the mental and physical struggle against repression and racism.

In the October issue of RG Magazine , free with tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette , Roger Crombie examines how and why Marley continues to retain such a hold on the consciousness of so many Bermudians from every walk of life. PLP MPs Renee Webb and Dr Ewart Brown recall meeting Marley in person and other Bermudians pick their favourite Marley tracks.

Bermuda's fashion designers are also in focus in this month's magazine. RG asked some of the Island's young designers to come up with their fall fashion ideas which were then photographed exclusively for RG by top local fashion photographer Marshall DeCouto.

The `Made In Bermuda' theme continues with a special jewellery spread featuring the work of local designers and photographed by James Cooper using young models playing 'dress up' to show off their work.

In October, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society marks its 25th anniversary by performing a modern version of The Pirates of Penzanace . Patricia Calnan, arts critic for The Royal Gazette , celebrates the occasion with a look back at 25 years of the Society's greatest hits along with scenes from some of the most memorable shows.
