Men accused of robbing tourist on beach
Two men appeared in Magistrates' Court to answer to multiple charges of theft and robbery at Church Bay on Saturday.
Darren Oneal Anglin, 23, is said to have snatched a tourist's handbag and brandished a bladed article at the woman who chased after him before he made his escape on a motorcycle.
His alleged accomplice is 22-year-old Devonne Adrian Hodgson.
Both men had mixed pleas when they appeared in Court Anglin, pleading not guilty to all four of his charges.
Anglin, of Warwick, and Hodgson, of Devonshire, were together charged with stealing a handbag containing personal items and robbing a Canadian tourist of her handbag containing items totalling $260.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Anglin was further charged with having a bladed article in Church Bay, a public place and also an increased penalty zone. He pleaded not guilty.
Anglin also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of stealing a Honda Scoopy motorcycle, an iPod Touch, a rain jacket, two Louis Vuitton pouches, two crash helmets and $10 from Deandra Brangman. Together, the items totalled $6,780.
Hodgson was separately charged with dishonestly receiving a stolen Blackberry Curve valued at $250; driving a motorcycle on Middle Road at dangerous speed and failing to stop when signalled by Police. He pleaded guilty to all charges.
Both men were remanded in custody until June 2 when they will next appear in Plea Court.
