Would-be thieves brandishing a weapon jumped into a taxi and demanded cash from the driver.

The incident took place at 6.25 p.m. Thursday, near the junction of Union and North streets in Hamilton.

Said a Police spokesperson: "It appears that a taxi travelling on Brunswick Street was flagged down by two unknown men. The two men entered the taxi and not long into the journey began demanding money from the taxi driver, a 59-year-old Hamilton Parish man, with one of the men brandishing a weapon."

The driver refused to hand over any cash and according to Police, " the men eventually exited the taxi at the junction of Union Street and North Street empty handed".

The taxi driver was not injured and officers arrested four men at a Pembroke residence in connection with the incident shortly after.

Police inquiries are ongoing.
