Coast guards have ended the search for a lone sailor lost at sea.

Jakob Fenger left Bermuda on May 30 to sail to Newfoundland aboard his 34 ft sloop 'Dystocia'. He was last heard from on June 3 and reported missing the next day.

The US and Canadian Coast Guards have now called off the search for the 56-year-old Icelander, and yesterday Bermuda Maritime Operations confirmed it has also closed the incident.

The Coast Guards conducted two days of searches while the Icelandic Coast Guard also dispatched aircraft and asked ships to be on the lookout for the yacht. The official search however, was called off on June 27.

A spokesman for Bermuda Maritime Operations said: "They don't know exactly where he went missing but he was a solo sailor so anything could have happened to him."
