A 26-year-old Pembroke woman had her handbag, cash and personal items stolen while walking along Happy Valley Road.

According to Police, the woman was near the junction with King Street at approximately 8.05 p.m, when the thief came up behind her.

Said a spokesperson: "The suspect grabbed the Pembroke woman's handbag and a struggle ensued. However, the offender managed to make good his escape on foot with the handbag on to King Street. The victim was not injured. The gold coloured handbag contained a small quantity of cash and personal items."

The suspect is described as a black male. At the time of the incident he was wearing a baseball cap, dark coloured hooded top and dark coloured long pants.

Inquiries into the incident are underway.
