Five teenagers, including a girl, have been jointly charged with murdering 18-year-old Kellon Hill.

Zharrin Frankie Simmons, a 16-year-old girl, Kevin Andre Warner, 18, Gary Rupert Hollis, 15, Devon Vonzell Hairston, 17, and Kellan Jeaurreau Lewis, 16, were all remanded into custody by a Magistrate yesterday.

Mr. Hill, 18, was allegedly attacked and stabbed while leaving a party at Elbow Beach late on Saturday night.

In addition to the murder charge, Simmons alone is accused of illegally possessing "a sharply pointed article" — believed to be a screwdriver. Warner is charged with possessing an offensive weapon in the form of a wooden cane.

Hollis and Hairston are separately accused of possessing offensive weapons in the form of crash helmets. Lewis is charged with possessing a knife with a blade in excess of three inches.

The defendants were not required to enter pleas, as the matter must be dealt with at Supreme Court.

Members of Mr. Hill's family and relatives of the defendants packed the courtroom, which was standing-room only during the hour-long hearing. Many were in tears, as was the defendant Simmons, who had to be comforted by her lawyer Larry Scott.

The other defendants stared straight ahead and at the floor as the charges were put to them. Hollis was the only defendant to seek bail through his lawyer Saul Froomkin QC. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner denied the application.

He remanded the two eldest — Hairston, of Spanish View Road, Smiths, and Warner, of Warwick Park Road, Warwick, into custody at Westgate.

The younger defendants — Simmons, of Deepdale Road West, Pembroke, Hollis, of Butterfield Lane, Sandys, and Lewis, of Peacock Crescent, Sandys — were sent to the Co-Ed facility.

They must return to court on August 28 for an administrative hearing.
