Owners fined for unlawfully breeding pitbulls in Sandys

A man and woman admitted owning and breeding pitbulls unlawfully in their Sandys home, when they appeared in Magistrates' Court.

Jonathan Landy and Rebecca Gardner, both of West Side Road, committed the offences between an unknown date and December 9 last year.

Landy, 24, admitted to owning a brown pitbull without having a valid licence. He also pleaded guilty to breeding a tan pitbull without a licence.

Gardener, 22, was separately charged with having a male brown pitbull, while not the holder of a valid licence.

The court heard that animal protection officers arrived at the home on December 9 after receiving a complaint of illegal breeding of pitbull puppies.

When they entered the house they found the dogs in the kitchen at the rear of the property. Officers found a brown female pitbull tied to a chain and several puppies.

Officers also learnt there was no permit issued to breed any dogs at that residence.

The defendants were called to a Government Department for a meeting and were cautioned of the offence.

Landy was fined $200 for each charge and Gardner was also fined $200 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
