Psychiatry link-up with Premier's former university
Premier Ewart Brown's alma mater has agreed to provide psychiatry services to the Island.
On September 17, a week after his farewell gala in Bermuda, Dr. Brown will sign an agreement with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at Howard University.
Under the agreement, Howard will provide regular consultation services in psychiatry, which include telepsychiatry, and visits of faculty to the Island. A new fellowship is also planned.
Dr. Brown said: "The addition of Howard University in the field of psychiatry is appropriate and important. As a Howard graduate, I am particularly proud of this achievement."
William Lawson, chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, will oversee the partnership. Dr. Brown, was described by the university as a "community minded, internationally acclaimed physician".
They noted that he received his Bachelor in Science in Chemistry as well as his M.D. degree from Howard's College of Medicine before earning a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.
The agreement will be signed between Howard President Sidney Ribeau and Dr. Brown at the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library in Washington, DC at 10 a.m. in September.
