Rescued storm birds are doing well after care
Birds brought to the zoo for care as a result of Hurricane Igor are recovering well, according to curator Patrick Talbot.
The Royal Gazette reported on Tuesday how two young longtails got swept from their nests during the storm.
The zoo ended up with a total of four longtails as a direct result of the hurricane, as well as a underweight herring gull found in Devonshire Bay.
Staff have been feeding the gull with anchovies and herrings.
"We're putting weight back on it and we'll probably release it next week," said Mr. Talbot yesterday.
One of the young longtails was released back into the wild yesterday, and its hoped the rest of the birds will be well enough to leave the zoo in the next two weeks.
"They're all doing really well," said Mr. Talbot.
