Government launched a survey yesterday of all those with sight problems in Bermuda, to better understand the daily challenges they face.

The survey aims to compile a list of blind or visually impaired people on the Island and to identify their needs and whether they are being met. It also aims to identify the services they would like to have access to.

Amanda Marshall of the Bermuda Society for the Blind will carry out the survey with eight interviewers.

So far, 80 people have registered to take part. Interviews will be conducted in households, institutions, at the Beacon House or at Dr. Marshall's office, with an estimated completion date of July 31. A report is expected to be published in December.

All interviewers will carry an ID badge issued by the National Office for Seniors and the Physically Challenged.

People who are blind or visually impaired can register for the survey by calling NOSPC at 292 7802 and asking for Ann Lindroth or Keith Simmons, or the Bermuda Society for the Blind at 292 2975.
