Teen describes watching cousin die
A cousin of murder victim Kellon Hill has described seeing him dying before her eyes.
Latania Anderson, 17, attended the Elbow Beach party last August that culminated in 18-year-old Mr. Hill being killed as he left.
She described seeing people running up the road away from the beach, and followed to see what was happening.
Although Miss Anderson saw "nothing much" of the fight, she witnessed its aftermath.
"I saw Kellon, the one that was murdered, leaning against the wall," she told the jury. "He was walking faintly uphill. He went down to the ground. He was gasping as if for his last breath."
Miss Anderson said Mr. Hill was losing blood. After he fell on the ground, she rushed over to him as one of her female friends held his head up. The Police arrived, and those that had earlier run towards the incident left the scene.
Mr. Hill is alleged by prosecutors to have been set upon by five teenagers as he left the party.
He died of a stab wound to the heart. The five accused are currently on trial at Supreme Court.
Besides murder, each is accused of possessing a different weapon. Kellan Jeaurreau Lewis, 17, is alleged to have had a knife and Kevin Andre Warner, 19, a wooden cane.
Gary Rupert Hollis, 16, and Devon Vonzell Hairston, 18, allegedly wielded crash helmets while 17-year-old Zharrin Frankie Simmons the only girl charged is accused of having a screwdriver. They deny the charges.
The five are alleged to have used the various weapons listed in the charges against Mr. Hill.
Miss Anderson had earlier told the jury that she caught a bus from White Hill to the party with three other girls. Also at the bus stop and on the bus were Hollis, Hairston, Lewis and Simmons.
She described speaking to them at the bus stop and seeing Hairston with a bottle of liquor that they were sharing around and drinking. She told the court she did not see them again that night after they all got off the bus at Elbow Beach.
In answer to questions from Kellan Lewis' lawyer, Craig Attridge, she agreed that she'd told Police that the first thing that attracted her attention to the incident was "a cracking sound".
She further agreed that she saw helmets being swung in the fight, but did not see them making contact, and that it was dimly-lit at the scene.
Earlier in the day's proceedings, 18-year-old Kushae Hypolite, who attended Bermuda Institute with the victim, described what he witnessed at the party.
After hearing someone say "this guy's bleeding," Mr. Hypolite looked in the direction of the incident. "I could see a commotion. People were running around all crazy, screaming," he told the jury.
The witness did not recognise anyone at the scene, but saw a person swinging a stick at someone's head.
The person ran away, then fell, but he could not describe the victim or the attacker.
The case continues.
