W&E press on with Flatts Bridge repairs

Temporary support structures brace the northeast section of Flatt's bridge after being installed last year.

The Ministry of Works and Engineering promises that it will soon be tendering the repair of Flatts Bridge, which was found to be in need of some work last summer.

Last June, a complete structural inspection was performed on the bridge, including an underwater survey of the abutments.

The survey found that while the bridge was mostly in good shape, the north-eastern footpath was in poor condition, along with the guard rails and a support beam.

In August of last year, a spokesperson for the Ministry stated that work on the bridge would be completed by the end of last year, but while temporary shoring was installed to ensure safety for pedestrians, real work on the footpath has yet to begin.

Last weekend, the Ministry workers completed some repairs on the wooden guard rails of the bridge, with the rest of repairs now hoped to be completed by the end of the summer.
