Witness tells of seeing a metal object in the hand of accused during fight
Murder-accused Zharrin Simmons had a metal object in her hand as she swung punches and hit victim Kellon Hill in his abdomen, a murder trial jury heard.
Kennysha Simons took the stand yesterday afternoon and told the jury the fight was a few feet in front of her.
She described seeing a silver metal object in Simmon's hand and described her as being dressed like a boy with her hair pulled back.
Miss Simons said she arrived at the party after 10 pm but didn't want to stay because "it was a younger crowd".
She said she began walking up the hill towards her bike when the fight broke out.
The witness told the court she saw Mr. Hill sitting on his bike when two boys came up to him and one of them snatched his chain.
Kellan Jeaurreau Lewis, 17, Kevin Andre Warner, 19, Gary Rupert Hollis, 16, Devon Vonzel Hairston, 18, and Zharrin Frankie Simmons, 17 pleaded not guilty to murder at the start of the trial.
Lewis alone is also accused of unlawfully possessing a bladed article in a public place, with the others facing individual charges of possessing offensive weapons. Warner is said to have had a wooden cane, Hollis and Hairston allegedly had crash helmets, and Simmons a screwdriver.
They deny all the charges.
Mr. Hill was allegedly stabbed to death as he left a late-night party at Elbow Beach last August.[AT]bodyindent:Miss Simons described the start of the fight."They walked up to him, Kellon. At first it looked like they was just talking and then they snatched his chain.
"It was one that snatched his chain but they both walked up to him."
Miss Simons said Mr. Hill got off his bike and it looked like he was asking the boys for him chain back.
She said he was calm and mellow.
The witness said they didn't give him the chain back and a fight broke out.
Asked what type of fight it was, Miss Simons said a fist fight. When asked if she saw anything other than fists, she said she saw a metal object in Simmons' hand who she knew from attending Elliott Primary School and Whitney Institute.
Asked by Crown counsel Robert Welling how Simmons was dressed, Miss Simons said: She was like a tom boy, boyish. Like dressed like a guy. Her hairstyle was also going back like a boy."
Pressed by Mr. Welling on the object she saw, Miss Simons said:"I saw the object in her hand when the fight moved closer up by me. "
Asked how close Simmons was to the fight, she said:"She was in it". The witness said she saw Simmons throw punches at Mr. Hill with the silver metal object in her hand.
Miss Simons said the first punch missed the following connected in his lower abdomen.
The witness also said she saw a cane break over Mr. Hill's head during the fight.
She said she saw Mr. Hill fall down and partygoers including his attackers run back down the hill towards the beach and up the hill towards South Road.
"He was bleeding and just laying there. He was bleeding from his upper body and abdomen. He was bleeding from the same place where Zharrin connected a punch."
During cross-examination Miss Simons admitted the fight came up the hill and the same people weren't in it the whole time.
She also said she was upset at what happened to Mr. Hill but admitted she didn't want to talk to the Police. The trial continues.
