Worker fined $1,750 for driving golf cart on road

A construction worker was fined after he admitted riding an unlicensed and uninsured golf cart on a main road.

Maurice Pitcher, 23, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to driving the vehicle on May 5.

According to Crown counsel Nicole Smith, Police stopped Pitcher after they saw him riding the golf cart through Dockyard.

Yesterday Pitcher said that he was working at the time for Corriea Construction.

He said the vehicle belonged to the construction company and he had no idea it was not street legal.

"I'm self-employed," he said. "I was just doing Corriea Construction a favour."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said: "If you're going to take it on the road you have to make sure."

Mr. Warner fined Pitcher a total of $1,750 and issued him two demerit points.
