A cashier caught on camera stealing money from her employer will be sentenced next month.

Lakita Martin, 36, of Harrington Sound Road in Smiths, appeared at Magistrates' Court yesterday and admitted taking $650 from Crow Lane Bakery on June 27.

The court heard that the owner of Crow Lane, on Church Street, Pembroke, put two $100 bills in the cash register at the start of the work day.

At the end of the day he compared the cashier's report and noticed that $200 was missing from the register.

He installed a camera without telling the employees and the following Friday he checked the footage, which showed Martin taking an unknown amount of money from the register.

Martin was fired, though she returned $200 to her employer. Her boss went to the Police and Martin subsequently admitted the offence.

Martin told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that all the money had been paid back. Mr. Warner ordered a social inquiry report and ordered Martin to appear back in court on October 15. She was released on $1,000 bail.
