Bermuda to create visa waiver post
Government is to appoint a civil servant to ease restrictions for those on the Stop List wanting to travel to the US.
The person responsible for the Visa Waiver Assistance Programme will be announced by the Premier within the month.
Dr. Ewart Brown told a press conference on Thursday: "The present and former US Consuls General have been tremendous friends of Bermuda.
"Against the background of their desire to help us help our own citizens, the Government has determined that it is necessary to create an office devoted to assistance with securing waivers for entry into the United States.
"Within the next month, I will be in a position to announce the person charged with management of this task.
"The person's role will be to demystify the process for our citizens; and to encourage those who simply think the experience too burdensome and are unlikely to view their applications positively."
The Throne Speech stated: "Too many Bermudians have run afoul of the strict provisions which determine entry into the United States.
"Therefore, this Government will create a Visa Waiver Assistance Programme to encourage Bermudians to stay off the list of prohibited persons, and moreover provide assistance to those requiring visas to enter our nearest neighbouring country, the United States."
