Breaking News: Armed officers on duty throughout holiday weekend

Armed officers will be on duty 24 hours a day over the Cup Match weekend in an effort to ensure the holiday isn’t marred by violence.

The Bermuda Regiment has been called in assist Marine Police, and tight security is planned at Somerset Cricket Club for the two-day match.

Speaking at a press conference today, Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva said there would be upwards of 150 officers on duty from tomorrow through Monday morning.

“We are working closely with Somerset Cricket Club to make sure security is tight. We’re certainly aware that a number of establishments are having parties and concerts.

“We will have enough Police officers on duty. More than 150 officers have been called into duty.”
